Deep Blue - Fall Semester Recap

Franklin and Marshall Ultimate recently capped off another exciting and succesful fall semester. The season started with Club Sectionals at Rutgers and a mixed tournament at Gettysburg. These were mostly used to shake the rust off and get us into season form. Our next competition was the always interesting Haverween. This year Deep Blue went as Robin Hood men in tights while the girls were dressed as dinosaurs.
Although the first day was rained out, we used our attire to frighten most of the patrons and employees at Lyndon Dinner early that morning. On Sunday we beat St. Joes and earned a tough fought victory against Cornell B.
Captains Matt Satell and Drew Korns emphasized building a foundation of conditioning that would prepare us for long tournaments, and a nasty zone D that was nearly unbreakable in windy conditions. With our team making great progress in practice, the home tournament came at a great time. The first day included a 13-0 pounding of a high school team (show no mercy!), a win against Montclair State, a universe-point-loss vs Bucknell, and a victory against Vasser to bring us to the championship bracket. With high expectations for the next day, we started with a big win against Lehigh X, earning us a berth in the finals. Although everyone played their hardest, Bucknell proved to be too much and won 15-8. The second place finish matched our best performance at the home tournament.
The final contest of the season came at first annual 3 Guys 1 Cup St Joes Tournament. This one day slosh fest proved to be the climax of our season as we held our four opponents under 6 points, earning us our first tournament victory in recent memory and a bottle of Courvoisier Cognac as our trophy.
This spring we will be looking to build off of fall momentum and hope to culminate our efforts with a bid to regionals. We will post our spring schedule when it is available.
